The different measurement units from around the world might be confusing when looking for healthy vegetarian recipes, or any recipes for that matter – in case a recipe you found is missing this conversion information, this page will help!

Converting Cooking Units with Google

TIP: Use Google to convert the units used in the different recipes!

For example:

  1. Go to Google.com (opens in the new window)
  2. Type in “100 gram in oz” (without the quotes)
    • You’ll see that 100 grams is approx. 3.5 ounces
  3. or try “1 oz in dl
    • you’ll see something like this: 1 US fluid ounce = 0.295735296 dl
  4. or “1 tbsp in dl
    • result: 1 US tablespoon =~ 0.15 dl

Basic Recipe Legend

  • c = cup
  • t = tsp = teaspoon
  • T = tbsp = tablespoon
  • C = Celsius
  • F = Fahrenheit
  • g = gr = gram
  • kg = kilogram
  • dl = deciliter = 1/10 of a liter = 1/2 cup

Basic Recipe Unit Conversions (More Below)

  • 1 tsp (teaspoon) = 5 ml
  • 1 tbsp (tablespoon) = 20 ml
  • 1 c (cup) = 250 ml
  • 1 oz (ounce) = 30 grams

Pound, cups, tablespoon and teaspoon conversions assume the base weight-volume of water

  • 1 pound = 2 cups
  • 1 ounce = 2 tablespoons
  • 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons = 0.5 oz = 15 grams
  • 1 teaspoon = 0.17 oz = 5 grams
  • pinch is less than 1/8 teaspoon
  • dl = deciliter = 1/10 of a liter = 1/2 cup
